Civan has developed the ability to coherently combine many laser channels, so that they together function as a single, coherent, laser source. Civan’s Coherent Beam Combining (CBC) technology unlocks high power, high brightness, dynamic control, wavelength flexibility and other unique features. Each of these in their own right have profound potential application advantages in Industrial Materials Processing, Additive Manufacturing, Biomedical, Sensing and other industries. To meet the tolerances and precision required for implementing CBC technology into robust products and custom solutions, Civan has developed in-house, vertically integrated manufacturing techniques and facilities. In our CBC approach, a seed laser is injected into a splitting tree - to create multiple identical channels. Each channel is then amplified through a semiconductor or active fiber gain medium. Thereafter, each amplified channel is combined back together based on proprietary methods that leverage custom optical elements, precision alignment , and a robust active phase control system based on Civan’s proprietary algorithms.
Our novel lasers include an inherent ability to perform very high speed (MHz regime) Spatial and Temporal modulation, and variable beam shaping and profile manipulation – for in-process dynamic and adaptive control.
By utilizing Civan’s Proprietary CBC and Dense Optical Packaging technologies, we offer Lasers with scalable output power levels - while Ultra high laser brightness (true single mode or very high brightness multimode) is maintained.
This applies to Diode lasers, Fiber Lasers, Frequency Converted Lasers and others.
Civan offers Lasers at various different wavelengths. This is achieved through a combination of our technologies, including Fiber Lasers, Diode Lasers, Frequency Conversion, Coherent Beam Combining and Vertical Integration. Laser diodes, which are available in various wavelengths (UV,Vis & IR), are consistently being improved in terms of power, efficiency and beam quality. Civan's dense optical packaging technologies enable High brightness direct diode applications in these wavelength regimes. Fiber Lasers, which are available in the following wavelengths (~ 1um, 1.5um and 2um), have the highest power. Civan also has activities in Frequency conversion to reach 532nm output wavelength (Green). High output power and brightness at these wavelengths represents unique application opportunities that Civan's technology enables.
Through a unique vertically integrated approach, Civan develops and delivers laser modules and state-of-the-art electro-optic systems. From in-house chip design and assembly, through fiber-optic handling and precision automated optic assembly, to fully integrated high power laser systems built on Civan’s core technologies and competencies. Civan’s unique advantages in combined high precision and high automation, produce superior optical systems and subsystems. Our chip design & assembly capabilities includes Wafer design simulation, beam propagation simulation, die attach and wire bending. Our fiber handling capabilities include PM fibers, splicing, polishing, tapering, end-cup and fused couplers. Our automatic optical assembly capabilities includes nanometer stages, smart controllers, automated pattern recognition and automated active alignment in optic element pick and place operations. Civan’s extensive electro-optic system engineering, integration and R&D know-how, coupled with our state-of-the-art in-house manufacturing facilities, allow for unique product development and customization flexibility. Other important advantages associated with our vertically integrated approach include cost-containment and efficiency, improved lead times and better product quality control and assurance.
Through a combination of adaptive electro-optic control features and high power & high brightness output, our lasers are well-suited for remote free space, as well as long distance applications.
